The Intrepid Twosome
Mike + Sheri

In November 2014, Mike, my most excellent traveling companion and buddy extraordinare, and I made our virgin voyage to Viet Nam, with a little side trip to Cambodia thrown in.

Why Viet Nam, some people have asked me? I have fallen in love with Asia through several trips. Recently, I've met a number of Americans who have traveled throughout Viet Nam and loved it. I had assumed that we would not be welcome because of the "American War," as it is called there. I was assured we would be warmly received. That made the decision an easy one. However, we elected to avoid any sites dedicated to the war or earlier aggressions. We wanted our trip to celebrate the goodness of people and not how we can do harm.

That said, here is our photo safari along with a few stories and impressions. Some of these files are big and take a while to load, so click on a link, walk away from your computer for a while and come back in a few, view and enjoy!!

Viet Nam

"It wasnt about things to see—it was about people and the experience…"

Viet Nam stole our hearts. It's not a trip for everyone. It is hot. In big cities, the traffic is rough. It's hard to just take a walk! The food, of course, is fabulous, but it was the people we met who made our trip: Vietnamese friends + foreign travelers too. This was Sheri's favorite trip for sure—the trip of a lifetime, a trip of love.

Cambodia

We took a short side trip to Siem Reap to see Angkor Wat. Angkor Wat was first a Hindu, later a Buddhist, temple complex in Cambodia and the largest religious monument in the world. It was built in the 12th centuryaround the same time as Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. (Thank you, Wikipedia!)

That said, the guidebooks urge a lot of time to see the ruins. Perhaps it is because of other experiences we've had in past countries that we found that an afternoon touring several of the temples was plenty for us.

Because of the overwhelming task of trying to merge our photos in Angkor Wat, I've made 2 separate files. So some subjects repeat, but some are very different along with commentary at times...
